Library Update- September 1
The Carrollton Public Library is fully OPEN in the main library and excited to offer mobile WiFi hotspots and iPads for lending! The hotspots and iPads will allow those without internet access to connect to WiFi which has become increasingly necessary during the COVID-19 pandemic. As our education and economic systems demand internet connectivity, the library hopes to fill patron needs. The library’s lending program includes borrowing and using the devices for free. Each device, limited one per household, has a two-week checkout period and can be renewed if no holds are placed on the device. If a mobile WiFi hotspot or iPad is lost or damaged, replacement fees will be charged on patron’s accounts. The devices are compliant with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) passed by Congress in 2000 to address concerns about children’s access to obscene or harmful content on the internet.
Sue Lightfoot, Carrollton Public Library Director, states, “The mobile WiFi hotspots and iPads were purchased with grant funds supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the CARES Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State. The grant funds are in response to our community’s growing needs for internet accessibility because of virtual education, remote learning, and workforce development.” She continues, “At this time, we have limited amounts of mobile WiFi hotspots and iPads. We hope to change that soon as I’ve applied for additional grant funding to grow our device lending collection.” For more information a phone call to the library 660-542-0183 will answer patron questions about the library’s newest lending program.
